I am being sued by third party for old credit card debt. I stopped payment for a disputed charge.Nee

How long ago was the debt?

Statute of limitations is all you need depending on your state%26#039;s timeframe which varies.

Your credit report would show this and all you have to do is take it to court and it will be thrown out. You don%26#039;t even have to do any explaining about the debt.

Check here for the Statute of Limitations (SOL) for your state: http://www.fair-debt-collection.com/SOL-... Remember the clock runs from the last activity or payment.

If the only thing outstanding is the disputed amount, do you have documentation backing up your dispute? If the debt isn%26#039;t beyond the SOL, you could try to argue this before the judge.

Definitely show up in court. If you don%26#039;t the creditor will get a default judgment even if the debt is beyond the SOL.
