And according to my credit report - the debt has been charged off by this credit card company. Do they still try to collect on charge offs? Unfortunately, the last time there was any activity on this account, it was less than the SOL for my state (Florida). Can anyone offer any advice?

Yes, they can still attempt to collect the debt. A charge off is for tax purposes. Advice: Try to settle the debt before it gets to court and you get a judgment.

No they do not collect on charge offs. It just knocks your credit score down a bit.

they sell the account to a third party, and they attmept to collect whatever is owed, and earn a percentage. screw em, change your phone number, and wait until the report is cleared. ONLY time can fix your credit report.

No They wont. It is basically saying you arent paying or they cant get money from you. Not good for credit reports etc.

Its tricky situation is it still on you trw? If not tell them no.. if you want the points settle it out I am sure you can get it @ 40% Even if a debt is charged of they can sell it to a debt purcasher who can relist it on your trw........

Careful here; only Lori K has it right. I don%26#039;t think the others understood that it is still within statute which means you can be sued. If you are being served, they want to drag you into court. Settling for less is the best course of action.
