I just found out that my mother (who died in 3/06) had me as an authorized user on her Citibank credit card. Now since the estate is pending and she was behind when she died, it is not paid off and it is showing up on my credit report.
Should I dispute this? Will this affect my credit score if I was not the one who opened the account and did not use the account?
Will it hurt my credit score more to disput it than to leave it on?
Thanks

Dispute it. If can affect your credit score if it shows that you have cards that are behind payment.
Go to the 3 credit reporting agencies online. Or go to http://www.annualcreditreport.com where you can get your credit report FREE without being asked for your credit card. Then follow the instructions on how to dispute charges

Follow the instructions in the link below and fight this.
If you were only an authorized user, and NOT a co-signer to the account, you are not responsible for the debt. Make them produce a contract with your name on it. Without such a document they don%26#039;t have a case.

you need to file this dispute thru your credit card company. file your mother%26#039;s death certificate also. send copy to them. you said the account had your name on it then you are responsible for it. you can do a settlement with the company. and yes it will show on your credit. be careful what you put your name on. you will come out better on this account if you do a settlement on it. send her death certifcate to them and do a settlement. i am a collector for emerge, aspen tribute gold and aspire. let me know if you do a settlement i can help you with it. e-mail me ...princesswhitepaw@yahoo.com

that sucks! a similar situation happened with me. my mom tried to put me on as just an %26#039;authorized user%26#039;, but i was put on as a co-account holder. i didn%26#039;t know this until i was trying to buy a house, and it showed that i owed $12,000 on her credit card. there was no way around it, except to pay off the account and have her close it. however, if you are just an %26#039;authorized user%26#039;, you can probably call the credit card company and get it straightened out. i%26#039;d call the credit card company, the credit bureau, and then talk with someone at your bank. maybe they will be able to help. and sorry about your mom...
