My father is a 65 years old sernior citizen. I just found out he has a 30k in credit card debt.
Are there any programs out there for senior citizen specifically in dealing with credit card debt? He%26#039;s 65 years old and probably wont have steady income from now on. At most, he%26#039;ll have to declare bankruptsy.
Could I possibly contact the credit card companies and reduce the amount(not interest) and pay it off rather than defaulting on a payment and declaring bankruptsy. I would think credit card companies would rather get reduced amount than to have their client declare bankruptsy and not pay at all?
My father is in CA and any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Credit Card Financing?
yes and it would be the best thing you can do now == just call them up and they will be glad to work with you to reduce the debt!!!
Credit Card Financing?
Declaring bankruptcy can ruin a credit score and should be a last resort. There are many CC nonprofit organizations out there but there are also many scams that charge high ($100+) fees. Work on getting a budget and see how much more could be paid off. Yes, talk to any CC lenders to get the interest rate reduced or roll any high interest the CC debt into a low introductory rate to help pay off debt faster.
