What is the fastest way to get rid of credit card debt?

I%26#039;m not talking about those debt consolidation programs, where they settle your debt and you make payments to them. That actually adversely affects your credit. But what other ways are there?

What is the fastest way to get rid of credit card debt?

Pay the minimum on all cards except one. Put every extra penny you can find towards paying off that first card. As soon as that card is paid off, close the account. Then add everything you were sending to the first card plus the minimum you were already paying to the second card.

Start with either the card with the smallest balance or the one with the highest interest rate.

Clip coupons and cut any unnecessary expenses. Buy the store brand at the grocery store instead of the national brand. Buy household staples at the dollar store. Don%26#039;t waste money on trendy clothes. Before you go to the store, make a shopping list. Review it and make sure you absolutely need everything on that list. Then cross off three things. Stick to the list at the store and don%26#039;t impulse buy things. Go to the library, not the bookstore. Change your cell phone to the cheapest plan you can or cut it off all together.

good luck

What is the fastest way to get rid of credit card debt?

there is only one way and that is to pay them.

What is the fastest way to get rid of credit card debt?

Well violet, honestly I started my own business to bring in more of an income. Then what we also did was get a few of the 0% APR credit cards, transfer our debt into that and CLOSE out the credit cards with the other APR... THEN start paying it off and not using them again:)

What is the fastest way to get rid of credit card debt?

Stop spending money you dont have. Budget yourself. Get a loan from family perhaps? Or the bank.

What is the fastest way to get rid of credit card debt?

i%26#039;m trying to figure that one out myself!! i don%26#039;t think many people know that those debt consolidation programs only hurt your credit..

What is the fastest way to get rid of credit card debt?

You pay the credit cards off one at a time with the smallest amounts first, then you cancel the cards that have high interest rates

What is the fastest way to get rid of credit card debt?

First off, you (almost) never want to close a credit card account; the reason is that accounts which have been open for a long time increase your credit score. Once a card is paid off, just stick it in your safe and quit using it.

Secondly, what you should do is pay off the cards with higher interest rates first. (Of course, be sure to make at least the minimum payment on every card). Stop using your cards if you can, spend as little as possible, and put as much money as possible every month towards paying down whichever card has the highest interest rate. Depending on your credit rating, you might look into getting a new card with a 0% APR on balance transfers and consolidating your debt. The page I linked to has a list of cards that are recommended specifically for transferring balances.

What is the fastest way to get rid of credit card debt?

First of all, make yourself a list (or a spreadsheet, if you%26#039;re technically inclined) of all the cards, how much you owes on them, what the typical minimum payment is, and what the interest rate is.

Add up all the minimum payments. This is the minimum monthly credit card expense.

Check to see if any of the cards have a pretty low percentage usage. For example, if you had a $3k limit on average, are any of the cards under $1,500? If so, pay every last penny he toward the card that has the lowest balance until it%26#039;s paid off, while you continue to pay the minimum on the other cards.

If there isn%26#039;t a card close to pay off, he can choose to focus on either the card that has the lowest balance or the one that has the highest interest rate.

If there%26#039;s some %26quot;room%26quot; on cards with lower interest rates, it%26#039;s also not a bad idea to transfer some of the balance from the highest interest card to lower ones, then focus on paying off the now-reduced amount on the high-interest card.

Once one card is paid off, leave it open as an emergency buffer (also known as the broken fridge fund). Later, this will be replaced by a bank account buffer, but if you can get a credit buffer going, it%26#039;s more important to pay off your debt than to have a lot of money in the bank.

Then choose another card to focus on. (The next low balance or high interest card.) Take the minimum amount that you used to pay on the first card and snowball it into the payment of the second. Wash, rinse, repeat. This process is called snowballing.

Example:

Card 1 - 1,200 (minimum payment: 50)

Card 2 - 1,000 (minimum payment: 40)

Card 3 - 800 (minimum payment: 25)

Once you pay off Card 3, you can then pay 65 per month to card 2.

Don%26#039;t cancel the cards once you pay them off.

If you owe $30,000/$32,000 that%26#039;s a 93.75% usage.

If you pay off a $2,000 card it%26#039;s then $28k/$32k which is 87.5% usage.

However, if you close the paid off card it%26#039;s now $28k/$30k, which is 93.33% usage.

Keeping the card open but not used makes you look better, because you%26#039;re not as close to being totally maxed out. (Plus, that%26#039;s your emergency fund until you get you credit card payments low enough to make a savings account emergency fund.)

In all but the most dire situations, it is possible to pay off debt. This process will take a while, but it%26#039;ll be worth it!

What is the fastest way to get rid of credit card debt?

To call your credit card company and depending on how much in debt you are, and usually they%26#039;ll work with you, they will offer a settlement which is roughly 60% of your bill (which is really low..) and they send you a settlement letter in the mail. That%26#039;s it.

Wiil I go to jail if I don't pay my credit card debt?

I was served with a court order from a constable officer, but in the court order, was not a court date for me to go to, some time has past and I閳ユ獡 finding out that is too late or that I already past the time given to response when really there was not a specific time to response, and from friends I hear lots of stories about cases like mine and it looks like the same at the end, that they can閳ユ獩 do anything about it, my friends tell me if I can閳ユ獩 pay they can閳ユ獩 make me pay or put me in jail, but what about the court order thet realy did not have a court date? I went to a lawyer and told me even though it閳ユ獨 late he would charge $1,500 but will not guarantee anything ( I don閳ユ獩 trust these people it seems like they only want money and try to scare you just as much as these credit card companies )and also told me that this credit card company could eve put a lean against my home.

Is all of these true? I閳ユ獡 worry about, it should I be?

Thanks

Jose from Houston Tx.

Wiil I go to jail if I don%26#039;t pay my credit card debt?

If it was a legitimate court summons, and you failed to appear, they will enter a judgment against you. This means the creditor will have to file paperwork to garnish wages or seize any bank accounts.

YOU CAN NOT GO TO JAIL FOR FAILURE TO APPEAR OR PAY!

Your employer will receive a notice of garnishment and then they will inform you of the amount (average 25%).

Here is a link to explain the law in Texas

http://www.fair-debt-collection.com/stat...

LEGAL DISCLAIMER: The advice contained herein is for informational purposes only. It is not to be construed as Legal Counsel nor Legal Advice.

Wiil I go to jail if I don%26#039;t pay my credit card debt?

No...there are no debtors%26#039; prisons in the USA. Worst case scenario: The credit card firm gets a judgment against you, at which time they can garnish wages (I believe that wages cannot be garnished in TX)...or freeze your checking account.

NEVER, EVER be a %26quot;no show%26quot; in court....They%26#039;ll get a default judgment against you simply for not showing up.

Wiil I go to jail if I don%26#039;t pay my credit card debt?

Never heard that one before, I would suggest get a consultation from a lawyer.

Wiil I go to jail if I don%26#039;t pay my credit card debt?

It would cost you about the same to file bankruptcy. So if you have a lot of CC that you cant pay do that instead of paying that attny for that one card he cant promise anything about.

Wiil I go to jail if I don%26#039;t pay my credit card debt?

You won%26#039;t go to jail, but more than likely a default judgment order will be placed on you meaning they can collect by means of putting a lien on your property, freezing your bank account or garnishing your paycheck for the amount owed, but would be at about 25% until the debt is paid.

Okay and it also seems like they gave you a chance to respond to the debt you owe but you didn%26#039;t so now it goes to court and you have the option of showing to discuss your case or not showing and they will then place a judgment against you. You may can avoid this happening by calling the creditor and settling the debt.

Wiil I go to jail if I don%26#039;t pay my credit card debt?

NOpe , USA no longer jails debtors.

visit dave ramsey.com to learn what u need before u get scammed any more.

sorry u have alot to learn.

Wiil I go to jail if I don%26#039;t pay my credit card debt?

Jose, relax. Not paying your bills is not considered a criminal offense, and you will not go to jail.

Now, our previous responders have completely missed a major point here...you live in Texas.

Texas has laws that prevent credit card companies from garnishing your wages. They can attach a lien on your home, but they can%26#039;t just kick you out and see your home to recover their money. At best, they have to wait until you sell your home, and you have to pay them their debt at that time.

Please consult another attorney, as this guy is certainly out to jerk you out of $1500. At the very least he should have explained what I just told you.

And if you really do owe this debt, no attorney in the world is going to prevent a judgment against you.

And how much is this debt? Why would you pay an attorney $1500 to avoid a $2-$3000 credit card bill? If this were Michigan, I%26#039;d be sending a complaint to the local Bar Association about this guy.

So what to do? Based on the fact that this collection agency is going to have a mighty hard time collecting from you, give them a call and negotiate a settlement that:

1) Is at least 30% less then your debt

2) Freezes interest/late fees

3) Guarantees they delete this from your credit report

4) Has payments that you could manage.

Their alternative is to try and collect from you, which will cost them a lot with no guarantee they will collect a penny.

I am financing a mortgage 100%(have excellent credit).Would paying off any credit card debt get a be

Doing 100% mortgage financing and have excellent credit rating. Don%26#039;t carry high credit card balance, but do carry one. Would paying the credit card off get me a better interest rate or would the only help be making a down payment and financing less than 100%?

I am financing a mortgage 100%(have excellent credit).Would paying off any credit card debt get a better rate?

Paying off your credit card balance is a good thing to do. Yes it will help your FICO score,.

More importantly, you can use refinancing proceeds to pay off the card ( which is -what- at 30% or something like that ) and replace it with a 8% or so rate ( and the interest is Tax-deductible ).

I am financing a mortgage 100%(have excellent credit).Would paying off any credit card debt get a better rate?

Ask your lender. Typically, it should not make any difference.

I am financing a mortgage 100%(have excellent credit).Would paying off any credit card debt get a better rate?

What about PMI?? Has anyone mentioned that with a 100% loan you have to pay Personal (primary??) Mortgage Insurance??

Make the down payment, and get a fixed 30 year 1st mortgage only.

I am financing a mortgage 100%(have excellent credit).Would paying off any credit card debt get a better rate?

Because you have excellent credit already paying off that credit card wouldn%26#039;t really help you. The only way that would really help you is if you are trying to eliminate some of your monthly bills besides you need to keep at least one thing open on your credit because that%26#039;s how we get approved for other things. They need to see that you have something on your credit you have been paying on for a while, and you have been paying on it consistently before they will approve you for anything else.

Any person being sued or jailed for non paying credit card debt?

The credit card is known as international card

Any person being sued or jailed for non paying credit card debt?

You can certainly be taken to court for non payment of a credit card debt, but definitely not jailed if you are in the U.S.

What happens when u stop paying back ur credit card debt?

what can the card issuers do?can they sue u or come after u?or what?i thought bout filing backruptcy, but i have enough in property to invest in a place for me and my soon to be wife to live. i thought about just lettin my credit go to hell...i been paying for several yrs now but im gettin tired of living broke b/c of it.

What happens when u stop paying back ur credit card debt?

Yes they will send solicitors letters then take you to court for the money- which will increase what you owe-if you genuinely cant pay you should be able to pay a certain amount each week aor month.

No-one likes to pay bills - but you got yourself into it-pay a little more each month and it comes down much much quicker

What happens when u stop paying back ur credit card debt?

What happens when u stop paying back ur credit card debt?

Can my husband's wages be garnished for a credit card debt acquired by me prior to us being mar

I%26#039;m a stay at home mom. I got this credit card 12yrs ago when I was 18 and I was contacted recently saying that there is a judgment against me. I totally forgot about this card. :(

Can my husband%26#039;s wages be garnished for a credit card debt acquired by me prior to us being married?

A couple responders didn%26#039;t see the part where you stated there was a judgment against you. In that case, sending a cease and desist will do you no good, and the statute of limitations on judgments are quite long.

Did you check to be sure you have a judgment? Never take the word of a collection agent....call the court and find out.

To answer your question, they can not go after your husbands wages or property for debts you incurred prior to marrying him. But they can go after joint accounts and/or property, so be sure you are not on his bank accounts.

Can my husband%26#039;s wages be garnished for a credit card debt acquired by me prior to us being married?

No, not assuming he wasn%26#039;t a cosigner on the card.

Can my husband%26#039;s wages be garnished for a credit card debt acquired by me prior to us being married?

They shouldn%26#039;t be able to, plus how long ago did you stop paying on the card? There is a statues of limitations that after 6-8 years, they can%26#039;t come after for a card as long as there was nothing being paid on the card. Like everytime you make a payment, the date resets. If you want, you can email me and tell me all what they said. Most collection agencies %26quot;claim%26quot; to have lawyers on their payroll, but in most cases they can%26#039;t touch you. They try to bully or scare you into getting up money to pay them off.

Can my husband%26#039;s wages be garnished for a credit card debt acquired by me prior to us being married?

Most likely not if his name is not on the original account.

Can my husband%26#039;s wages be garnished for a credit card debt acquired by me prior to us being married?

if it%26#039;s been 12 years, then you can file a %26#039;cease and desist%26#039; claim against the collection company and they won%26#039;t be able to use it against you or your husband anymore. my husband was just send a claim from verizon for a telephone bill from 10 years ago, and he%26#039;s had phone lines through verizon since then. we just sent in a %26#039;cease and desist%26#039; form to the collections company and received a letter in the mail about a month or two later saying that the case was dropped.

Can my husband%26#039;s wages be garnished for a credit card debt acquired by me prior to us being married?

I would not worry about it. And if you are then call them and make arrangment. But most likley this is just a scare tactick. They are pronly not going to do anything. Alot of times they sell there old accounts to new companies to try and collect from you. You can also call and ask for a settlement price. most places after this long will settle for 50% or less of the actual balance. But I would not do anything unless they start calling you.

Can my husband%26#039;s wages be garnished for a credit card debt acquired by me prior to us being married?

If your husband is not on the account then the company can NOT garnish his wages. Since you are a homemaker and have no wages to garnish you might want to call and try to %26quot;settle%26quot; the debt for a lesser amount. If you do this they will quit calling you and the account will not reflect as poorly on your credit report.

Can anyone give me some tips on how to stop credit card debt?

i have two credit card and have fallen behind on payments, im really behind on money right now! what should i do!!

Can anyone give me some tips on how to stop credit card debt?

You know the answer: quit swiping plastic and pay off the balances. Its called self-control.

Can anyone give me some tips on how to stop credit card debt?

shred the cards

Can anyone give me some tips on how to stop credit card debt?

1. STOP USING THE CREDIT CARDS.....chop them up

2. Get a second job to help pay off those debts

3. Once you get them paid off DONT APPLY for new credit cards....get secured and/or DEBIT CARDS

.....

Can anyone give me some tips on how to stop credit card debt?

I would consolidate them into one new credit card that offers a good deal, like 0%- 5.99% for a specific time frame. That lowers the monthly payment, and its only 1 bill instead of 2 or more.

Can anyone give me some tips on how to stop credit card debt?

The first thing you should do is call the credit card company and apprise them of your situation. Stop using the cards too and make more than the minimum payments. The minimum payment will take years to pay off, but even by paying $50 more a month will help. Also, if you pay once every week or two, there will be less interest charged.

If your monthly payment is $100, then make a weekly payment of $25. Your monthly payment will be made and you will be charged less in interest.

A second job will help things out a lot. There are lots of ways to save money to put towards paying off the debt. Don%26#039;t go out to eat. Shop for cheap foods and cook at home. Ramen, hotdogs, macaroni, fruits, vegetables are all good cheap foods. Stop paying for things you don%26#039;t need like movie rentals, clothes, books, etc. Stay at home more often so you won%26#039;t spend money since you%26#039;re not out.

If you have to go out, go to places and do things for free. Go to the book store and read there but don%26#039;t buy anything. Bars have good entertainment and a night of entertainment can be cheap if you only order a drink or two. Parks are good, walks down town, window shopping, etc.

Can anyone give me some tips on how to stop credit card debt?

1) Pay that date which carries higher rate first

2) Go on paying in each card the minimum

3) Try to enhance your income

4) Reduce your expenses

5) Finally, keep only one card .. use it only to facilitate %26quot;mode of payment - card type%26quot; purposes

6) Avail a regular loan from a financial institution, if need be.

Can anyone give me some tips on how to stop credit card debt?

You have credit card debt, and you wan to pay it off as quickly as you can. We will assume that you are going to stop creating more debt. You have changed your ways. You also understand that paying credit card%26lt;!--balances with a consolidation loan or rolling it into a mortgage isn%26#039;t paying it off. In fact, paying a lower interest rate, but paying on the debt for many more years, usually means paying much more, not less.Okay, so you really want to be rid of that credit card debt.

http://bestcreditcards.freehostia.com/Cr...

First, you have to understand that not all debt is the same. Of course you know this. Some of your cards have a higher interest rate than others.Find and budget the money to start paying down those balances. If you order pizza every week, for example, you may be spending $60 or $80 per month right there--%26gt;If you are serious about getting those debts paid, you may have to eat $4 frozen pizzas for now. Do what you have to do, and determine how much you can apply towards the debt each month.

Can anyone give me some tips on how to stop credit card debt?

Get organized. Take a look at what you%26#039;re spending your money on and decide what you need to cut in order to spend less than you earn.

Plan on spending less than you earn for every month for the rest of your life because that%26#039;s the only way you%26#039;ll be able to save for retirement.

See if you can reduce the cost of you credit card debt by consolidating, balance transfer, annual fees, etc.

Can anyone give me some tips on how to stop credit card debt?

quit spending money you don%26#039;t have duh!

What%26#039;s the best way to get out of credit card debt?

Settling your credit card debts is realistic. The government has approved many programs that allow you to gain the benefit over your creditors. You can settle your debt as low as 50% of what you owe, as well as reduce your interest charges to 0%. Period. It%26#039;s being done for many to help the economy and get consumers back on their feet. In order to qualify you must have an %26quot;overwhelming%26quot; amount of debt, more than $10,000. Collections do not matter, credit is not a factor. There are lawyers willing to settle your case with the economy on their side.

I have recently been educated on it and im personally motivated to make sure everyone knows about this. For more information, I can personally help you... email me at debtfree.asap@yahoo.com

I only have one credit card witha balance of about $8500. I am having a hard time catching up on paying it. I am not behind, but I just cant seem to get ahead.

What is the best way to get rid of credit card debt?

Listen to me, don%26#039;t go to any of these stupid credit counselors or debt consolidation agencies, i%26#039;m telling you from personal experience! I was over 15 grand in debt, I had 7 collection agencies calling my cell phone literally all day! It was hell! Life is not fun living in debt, it feels like theres this constant cloud over you. Listen to me, you are in a great position, especially if you owe this money one 1 card. You need to call them up, and ask to negotiate your debt. They will probably transfer you to a different department, or give you a different number to call. Talk to them. Since your account is not in colelctions yet, they will be leanient...ask them if you can get a fixed interest rate or fixed settlement account or something, or ask to work out your payments...Don%26#039;t enroll in any stupid programs they might have like %26quot;Credit protection%26quot; If worse comes to worse and you can%26#039;t deal with it, or its just too stressful, go to a NON PROFIT credit counseling center. (You can find these at your local city community center) They will negotiate your debt as well as a reasonable payment plan based on what you make with your credit card company.

Do NOT go to any %26quot;debt consolidation%26quot; company or any %26quot;credit fixer%26quot; company or %26quot;EZ Loans NO CREDIT NO JOB BAD CREDIT OK!!!!%26quot; type places.

It took me forever to get my financial situation under control and I am strill struggling a little but I only owe a couple grand now compared to 15g%26#039;s!!!!

What is the best way to get rid of credit card debt?

I have seen on TV many companies that have come forth that service people with your problem. You need to call some of them and see how they might help you.

What is the best way to get rid of credit card debt?

stop useing any cards u may have and just keep pay as much as u can and when u get more money pay more..

What is the best way to get rid of credit card debt?

If you are caught in the credit card debt trap, approach a debt consolidation company for help, instead of paying high rate of interest to your card issuer. Most of the debt consolidation companies provide loans to help you tide over the credit card debts. These loans are known as credit card debt consolidation loan. The advantage of this loan is that you are charged a low rate of interest. The difference between the interest charged on the credit card and the interest on the credit card debt consolidation loan is substantial, saving you quite a big sum of money.

However you should note that credit card debt consolidation loan may not be right for all. Before applying for any loan, consult your financial advisor and apprise him of your problem. He will analyze your situation, and decide whether credit card debt consolidation loan is right for you or not. Take this loan only if he recommends it.

Statistics say people are way over their heads in credit card debt; please?

tell me what specific items you have charged on your credit card that put you in over your head, and at what point you realized you were taking from peter to pay paul, and how you solved that situation, if you did (yet).

Statistics say people are way over their heads in credit card debt; please?

It%26#039;s the small things that really get you after a while. Like most people, I have a modest income. I would be short on cash after paying the essential bills such as house payment, car payment utilities, etc. Then something unexpected comes up, like a hugely expensive car repair or something in the house breaks down, so I would use the card for that. All the bills are paid, but my family hasn%26#039;t been fed yet, so I would go to the grocery store and get what we needed. Have to have gas in the car, so there goes another $40. Then I would get paid, only to find I had another big bill due that would wipe out most of my check. So there I am, broke again, and only the credit card to live on until next payday. Repeat this process monthly for a couple of years and you find yourself deep in hole that you can%26#039;t get out of. I%26#039;m not sure what%26#039;s going to happen next, but I have come to realize that you don%26#039;t have to be a bad person or live an extravagant lifestyle to have bad credit. I%26#039;m beginning to work things out, one by one, with each of my creditors. It will be a slow process, but I eventually plan to settle with my creditors without declaring bankruptcy. If I ever get these paid off, I%26#039;m not getting any more credit cards. The mess I am in now is exactly what they are designed to do.

Statistics say people are way over their heads in credit card debt; please?

When I first got my credit card I was freshly 18. I signed up with the intention to build my [good] credit and strictly for emergencies. I was very good for a while and used it only when necessary and immediately paid it off.

Then I moved out on my own and had necessities, such as a bed, security deposit, Happy Hour, etc. I found myself %26quot;over my head%26quot; in debt at 21 years old. It took me a little over 2 years to pay it off myself.

Currently, I am credit card debt-free and have been for three years. I only learn my lessons once.

Statistics say people are way over their heads in credit card debt; please?

well, you got me there, I dont have the magic key to that.

For me it got out of hand on medical issues for me and mhy mother, I thought I could handle it, by the time I looked back I already owed a pretty bundle and sincde your working it doesnt dawn on you that could be trouble. Other things like gas and that leaves you more money to spend, so for two years now I havent used my cards for anything, nothing, just pay, pay, pay, it gets frustrating sometimes but I think maybe in 2 years ill see the light at the end of the tunnel, the word is discipline, and we also have to teach those standards to our kids so they dont make the same mistakes.

One of my kids has returned from the UK with a credit card debt and thinks the contract is unenforce

Can anyone tell me if a UK Credit card contract can be enforced in Australia and if possible where I can find this in law so that I can show him one way or another.

One of my kids has returned from the UK with a credit card debt and thinks the contract is unenforceable here.

I don%26#039;t know if they will come after him but if he thinks that running from this debt will absolve him from it, he is mistaken. Lenders sell their debts to other companies to collect. I don%26#039;t know if credit card companies do that, but that debt isn%26#039;t going to go away.

The best place to check this out is to look at the card%26#039;s web site. You can even call and ask a general question. I doubt that they will track you down. Give a false name.

Ask your son who he thinks will pay for the debt he amassed? Does he realize that there are other people who use this card who don%26#039;t want to have to pay fees to use it? Does he realize that he used the products and services he paid for with this card and that what he is doing is stealing?

This is really a moral issue and an issue of maturity. I hope you can help him see where his duty lies - to pay off this debt before he amasses any other.

Good luck.

One of my kids has returned from the UK with a credit card debt and thinks the contract is unenforceable here.

Doesn%26#039;t matter if it will be enforced or not. The point is that that your kid charged these credit cards, and he/she OWES the money. These kinds of shenanigans are precisely what costs us, the taxpayers more money in the long run. I urge you to encourage your child to repay the money owed, and to be a productive member of society. How is he/she ever going to learn about these things? Certainly not when his/her PARENT is trying to help to find a legal way out.

Stop. Think about it. If you charge it, You PAY.

If you are really in a pinch and want to keep your home and not go all the way into bankcruptcy which is very hard to file nowadays anyway, you might consider a debt management program for your credit card debts only. That way you start getting those credit cards paid and out of debt on that end alot sooner than you are probably able to do now.

Your equity is quite high, you can get some cash out, though rate may be higher due to higher DTI. I can help you with it. I work with a big direct lender/mortgage broker doing business in 48 states, and because the huge volumn of business we do, we get better rate than smaller brokers. We have over 200 loan programs to meet the needs of different situations, from good FICO score and good income and down payment, to poor FICO score and NO income (called %26quot;stated income%26quot;) and NO down payment, so I will be able to find the program which best fits your needs. Your options depend on your needs. Why don%26#039;t you pay off your credit card debt, and then close some of the credit cards, so you don%26#039;t get into this situation again.

I don%26#039;t intend to be mean, but if you have an unprofitable small business, you don%26#039;t need a loan or line of credit. What you need is a profitable business, or to find employement that pays the bills. I tend to agree with the bank.

There are products out there that can get you money to pay off your credit cards using the equity in your home. However, if you are just further into debt (without any equity in your home), are you really be better off?

I think your options are to use the assets you have to make money with your small business, or find employment somewhere that will pay you...

Whats up with the feds, mandateing a 3% increase on old credit card debt.?

Want an answer? Take one look at the number of personal bankruptcy cases file this year.

Consumers are falling into a serious trap when they play around with credit. It starts with them making minimum payments. Then they get a second credit card and transfer the balance, only to run up the balance again on the first card. Then it%26#039;s off to re-finance their homes.

I%26#039;ve seen this over and over again!

So the government is now forced to step in. Be lucky this is all they did.

Whats up with the feds, mandateing a 3% increase on old credit card debt.?

It is a good thing for consumers. Although the monthly payment is higher, you end up paying more principal which means that you will pay less interest.

I live in ny and received a summons for an old credit card debt.?

Can my husbands wages be garnished for this. I am unemployed since Oct. 2004 and we have no property together or separate. I did take out an additional card for him. I checked his credit report and there is nothing of this bank there nor is his name mentioned on the summons.

I live in ny and received a summons for an old credit card debt.?

If your husband is simply a authorized user and not a joint or co-signer then no they can not come after him for payment of the debt.

You must show up for the court date or the collection company will win by default.

What%26#039;s wrong with me? Crazy cat lady is right, credit cards are considered open accounts and in the State of New York the S.O.L. is 6-years, so if the accounts are older then that and you have not paid even a dollar on them or agreed that this is your debt, all you have to do is show the court that the S.O.L. has expired and the case will be dismissed.

I live in ny and received a summons for an old credit card debt.?

How old is the debt ? The SOL my of run out.

I live in ny and received a summons for an old credit card debt.?

If the company pursuing collections already has a judgment against you, then yes, your husband%26#039;s wages can be garnished. You need to find out whether there is a judgment already, and if not, then file Exception of Prescriptions into the case. You can fight this, if it has not already gone to judgment.

What happens at a trial date set in 2007 pertaining to credit card debt?

i stopped paying a credit card and they set up another court date.

the judge said i%26#039;ll set this for trial date 1/18/07 and then i left the court wondering, what are they going to do then ,that they couldn%26#039;t do today?

What happens at a trial date set in 2007 pertaining to credit card debt?

You will be told by the Judge how much and in what amounts you will pay back to the credit card people. If you are lucky you will be able to keep your assets. If you are stupid, (as it seems like you were up till now) you will wear orange coveralls on weekends for 90 days while you ponder the Judge%26#039;s orders.

With the little info that you%26#039;ve provided, no telling.

Could be that it was a pretrial conference?

The judge wasn%26#039;t satisfied with the doc%26#039;s?

The Plaintiff needed more time?

etc., etc., etc.

Could be any number of things.

What happens at a trial date set in 2007 pertaining to credit card debt?

That doesn%26#039;t make sense.

Did you have a lawyer with you? If you didn%26#039;t ask for the some sort if extension, I don%26#039;t know why the judge didn%26#039;t just make a ruling.

What happens at a trial date set in 2007 pertaining to credit card debt?

they probably want you to suffer a bit more.

This way next time you%26#039;ll either pay your bill in time or refrain from purchasing stuff you can%26#039;t afford.

Either way it%26#039;ll save everyone%26#039;s time, lol just joking.

What methods can a collection agency use to collect credit card debt?

They%26#039;ll call, send letters.. If they are reallyhungry for your money find out where you work and start calling there. They may even find out family memebers and starting calling them.. Depending on the type of debt and amount of money they may eventually o to court and get an order to garnish your wages..put a lien on your property.. or try to reposses whatever it is you owe on.

What methods can a collection agency use to collect credit card debt?

My favorite method is %26quot;knee capping%26quot;. You don%26#039;t want to know what this is so it is best you pay off your debts BEFORE they get turned over for collection.

What methods can a collection agency use to collect credit card debt?

First theyll send letters and stuff but it its after like 10 years sumtin like that they can take it out of your bank account

What methods can a collection agency use to collect credit card debt?

they can make your life a living hell. they usually start calling again right before the statute of limitations runs out, after which you no longer legally owe the debt ( 4 to 6 years, depending which state you live in). the moment you promise them a payment, or sent a payment the statute starts all over again. so, if it has been 4 to 6 years since your last payment, they are no longer allowed to come after you, and you can tell them that.

Each state has a statute of limitations. Check the link for your state.

The information will remain on your credit report for 7 years. You can try to get it removed, but it doesn%26#039;t happen very often. Check out some of the credit repair links on Yahoo.

What is the best way to take care of credit card debt? Know of any companies that can help out?

First and foremost, stop using them. Then the best way to pay off credit card debt is to make minimum payments on all of your cards except the one with the highest interest rate. Then, pay whatever the largest amount that you can afford to that card every month until it%26#039;s paid off. Follow that strategy on the next highest interest rate, then the next. There are calculators that you can find on the internet that can show you the benefits of paying them off this way.

If you can%26#039;t afford to ever make more than the minimums, there are credit counseling services that will contact credit card companies and try to get them to lower or eliminate your interest rates while you are trying to pay them off. These companies figure out a budget for you based on your lifestyle and all of your expenses. Most of the time, you then pay them a lump sum that they distribute for you to all of your bills. Just do a search for credit counselors on Yahoo.

Put your credit card(s) in a freezer bag, fill it with water and put it in the freezer. You can%26#039;t impulse buy now and can concentrate on getting rid of your debt. I tried it and haven%26#039;t used my card for 2 months!

What is the best way to take care of credit card debt? Know of any companies that can help out?

Try your best to consolidate all of your credit cards into only one. It%26#039;s much easier to keep track of just one bill a month than a dozen.

Once you have consolidated, try transferring the balances to credit cards offering an introductory 0% rate. Sometimes you%26#039;ll get offers for a year at 0%. Then try as hard as you can to pay off as fast as you can. Cut your expenses to the bone and you%26#039;ll be out of debt in no time.

Don%26#039;t use your credit card unless you can afford to pay it off at the end of the month. The best way to avoid credit card debt is to just not use it.

What is the best way to take care of credit card debt? Know of any companies that can help out?

Credit counseling services will only serve to make your credit look worse than it is. with some support and discipline, you can pay off this debt, but it won%26#039;t be as easy as it was when you got it. as others have stated, stop using the cards - if you can%26#039;t pay cash, you don%26#039;t need it. If you are behind on any, call them and make arrangements to get current. If you are already current, then pay as much as possible on the smallest one to get rid of it while paying the minimum on the others, and as you get rid of each smaller debt, you%26#039;re encouraged because you are making progress. It will take time, but don%26#039;t give up

What is the best way to take care of credit card debt? Know of any companies that can help out?

What do you mean take care of it?

Your best bet is to pay it off. Start with the highest interest rate card first. Basically what you do is make minimum payments to all cards and pay the highest rate one more..as much as you can. When that%26#039;s gone, use the money you used to give them to the next highest, and so on.

As to consolidating it and getting a lower rate? Quite frankly unless you have perfect credit or can borrow against your home, these loans are nearly impossible to get and can end up increasing what you eventually pay.

You can either take out a second mortgage against your house or refinance but this too costs money and you end up reducing your equity in your home which means that if you end up in deeper financial trouble, your house payment will be higher and you could risk losing your home.

If you%26#039;re really in trouble, meaning starting to pay late or struggling, then there are credit counseling agencies that can help you get out of trouble faster and usually reduce the fees and interest rates on your cards.

If you look into one of the credit counselors, look for one acredited by the NFCC (see link below). Some of the companies doing this are crooks that will keep a month or more of payments for themselves, then charge high fees. The good ones don%26#039;t. Fees are minimal and your creditors get money right away.

There are some consequences to your credit if you use one, so if you are struggling but not yet running late, it may pay to talk straight to the credit card companies. Sometimes...they can be agreeable and cut your rates. Often they aren%26#039;t but it is worth a try and costs you nothing to do so.

Best of luck.

What is the best way to take care of credit card debt? Know of any companies that can help out?

Credit counseling services can help out. I know of AFS, for one. They work with your creditors to reduce or eliminate your finance charges and payments, putting them all into one lump sum that is automatically dedcuted from your account each month.

What is the best way to take care of credit card debt? Know of any companies that can help out?

Call Money Management. They will try to lower your intrest rates and set up a payment that is due once a month instead of how ever many cards you have. This keeps you from using them because you have to close all of the accounts. Therefore, only using the money you have :)

Don%26#039;t call any company. You end up paying them and they don%26#039;t care about your situation as much as you do. Plus using some of those companies can damage your credit rating.

Go through the baby steps that Dave Ramsey recommends.

find out using the link.

Does anyone know a good consolidation company for consolidating credit card debt?

That is an oxymoron :-) We did that and it didn%26#039;t save us money or get us out of debt.

We are following The Total Money Makeover (book by Ramsey).

Below is from his website and we have found it to be 100% true!

Debt Consolidation Myth: Debt consolidation saves interest and you have one smaller payment.

Truth: Debt consolidation is nothing more than a %26quot;con%26quot; because you think you%26#039;ve done something about the debt problem.

Debt consolidation is dangerous because you treat only the symptom. The debt is still there, as are the habits that caused it. You just moved it! Our counselors will not recommend debt consolidation for a client.

The reason that we do not use debt consolidation to get out of debt is because it doesn%26#039;t work. You end up paying about the same amount, which doesn%26#039;t really help you pay your debts off faster. Most people end up taking on more debt after consolidation and several end up in bankruptcy.

Does anyone know a good consolidation company for consolidating credit card debt?

I dont trust any of them they hurt your credit score terribly and most say they are free but they take alot of money. Dont trust creditsolutions.com they suck.
